Day 159: Flying on the crest...

Day 159: ...of a birdfeeder

The crested pigeons are probably the most timid birds in the backyard, very wary of the camera. Having spent much of the early morning awake, unintentionally, there wasn't much more than a quiet day around the house planned. Reading, writing, some of the usual Sunday housework...not much really. Besides, given yesterday's long day of music...well, a bit of a rest was in order.

When the loris came by I put some birdseed out. They don't particularly like this brand so they tend to leave it. #firstworldproblems for lorikeets...who'd've thought?

The crested pigeons however, come in around mid-afternoon to go for it (and the possum finishes it off in the evening...). They have an interesting approach: they tend to flick it all over the sides with their beaks, then get down on the ground to peck at it; the lorikeets, on the other hand, stay up high and keep it to themselves. And then there are those moments when the loris and pigeons are battling for the seed rights...another day.

Anyway, at a spare moment today, I wandered outside to try and capture what I could with this one. I was doing OK until it spotted me and then, in their usual way, it was off.

Enough below yet?

Oh, spotted

And...off, in a blur.

Still, pleased to have finally captured a little activity.
