So many shades of pink...

... and still, far far from the encroaching crowds... (88/365, 29 Mar 2022; 'Piano Day' apparently--88 keys on a piano...)

Remember a few weeks ago I ventured to a park in the suburb, a short bus trip away and I think I finished up saying (or tweeted, or thought), I bet this place will look nice in the time of sakura... well, now being the time of sakura, and having an afternoon without classes, without meetings, I decided 'let's go and have a look'.

The weather is not your typical spring weather--overcast today and temps maxing out at about 10degC, so hardly the blue sky spring weather that one anticipates at this time of the year but being a weekday, it might mean fewer crowds.

Turned out, there was very few people around, just the locals out for a walk at this time of the day. And my hunch from a few weeks ago was right...turns out this is quite a lovely spot for observing the sakura in all its shades...starting with the gorgeous weeping sakura at the entrance (a special shade of pink) through to all the other shades you can have along the river/canal. And we were all there just to enjoy the spectacle (OK, except maybe for the old fella who kept tapping his walking stick in my general direction as I paused to catch the shinkansen framed in sakura as it crossed the bridge).

Welcome sakura

How very pink

OK, my shinkansen shot with sakura doesn't have quite the same resonance as the very famous one we all know of the shinkansen passing Mt Fuji, and these are the trains headed north, under a restricted timetable as repairs continue to be made to the tracks following the earthquake... but, it's our 'burb, our train and we like it.

Still a few places to explore in the neighbourhood, places I passed on the bus today but might make for a good bike ride, on a sunnier day. We have a few days left yet in the season.

Today, walking along the bank with the Canon EOS M5, 18-150mm.
