One of the themes, since we are in Wakayama, is Japanese migration to Australia in the late 19th and early 20th centuries (sounds familiar?). Wakayama was one of a handful of prefectures which formed the basis of mass migration of Japanese labour all around the world. In the case of Australia it was mostly to North Queensland and Broome.

Today's highlight, undoubtedly, was meeting 13 descendants of the man considered Thursday Island's 'last pearl diver', Tommi Fujita. Quite amazing to meet and greet the family members who made made the trip over from FNQ especially.
Amazing. That's why we do what we do.
