Day 191 2015: May the work continue...

Day 191: ...for there is much peace to be made, much hope to be had

Yes, day three, the activities continued. Today was across the river at QUT, an opportunity for an up-close-and-personal session to hear one of the keynote speakers talk about the organisation of the peace walk by a group of women across the border between North and South Korea.

It was also an opportunity to have a pleasant conversation with Professor Akibayashi about her work in Japan, the groups there and the general academic scene when it comes to peace studies, gender politics and related things. There are some interesting developments arising for my next trip to Japan.

The QUT Gardens Point campus is right in the heart of the city, right next to the Botanic Gardens. We learnt yesterday that prior to white settlement, it was an important women's dreaming place. Appropriate then that women peace activists should meet on the land of traditional owners and acknowledge their wisdom. A special spirit.

After white settlement, it was the location of the original Government House which still stands albeit these days with a pretty flash cafe within as well as what looked like a function centre of sorts. Naturally, an amateur pixster with contrasty architecture is going to take photos, even if it was in the rain.

I also had to head back across the river to the theatre company to change some ticket dates whereupon, in this NAIDOC Week and having spent three days with peace activists, I chanced upon a mural by Libby Harward and Warrawa Weatherall. Happy NAIDOC Week to all my Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander friends!

And as if the weather knew, on my way home, a rainbow.

Seemed like a most appropriate way to finish the week. What a week. There is much hope to be had.
