It is a public holiday today, Sports Day, to celebrate the opening of the Tokyo Olympics on this day in 1964. Of course, Tokyo is to host the Olympics again in 2020, so there will no doubt be another public holiday.
It was a public holiday in the national sense, not the university sense. There were classes today so I went to work (not a lot of sports there). The next three days are non-teaching days (to make up for the days when we have been at work on public holidays) and then another day off so students can prepare for the weekend festival.
It all makes sense I'm sure.
So I wasn't too surprised to see a quiet port for most of the day today. It was supposed to be a clear sky too, which it was for about an hour this morning.
But no matter how often I looked out the window today (thinking of the sports I might have been doing...) it was all clouds.
A quiet port : a rare sight |

At least they made for some interesting colours and textures.
