We are, as academics at my university, fortunate to be bestowed a 'research day', a day each week whereupon we can think about our research, maybe even do some...it is a nice ideal. During semester, in reality, it is a day to catch up on the various admin tasks, prepare the next class (especially when your second semester is more teaching intensive than your first...) and besides, I tend to prefer to work days on end with my research and writing, one day mid-week is not usually quite what this doctor ordered.
And then, some days it is perfect to meet with colleagues to discuss new possible projects, over lunch. Which is what I did today. My research is largely a solitary undertaking (hard to build a team of people willing or able to analyse 19th century documents on Japan-Australia relations) so it it nice to get together with others and plan for what comes next.
It's beginning to look a lot like... |
Hello Kitty...donuts |
Lights |
The wheel...not the usual angle |
On the walk back to the office, I took a moment to check the wheel from a different angle, and given the time of day, saw it in a different light. (Sun sets early in these parts at this time of year.)
Seeing things in a different light. It can be a good thing too.
