so today was again sort of all about the food. I was invited to a special lunch to celebrate the release of yet another book by one of the country's specialists in Japanese literature, particualrly, Japan's women authors. Watanabe Sumiko is now Professor Emerita at my first Japanese university, Daito Bunka. I recall sitting in on some of her classes when I was a student there. I wish I'd paid a bit more attention. Today's stories were marvellous and for a woman in her 80s now, she was clearly a pathbreaker as an academic career woman in Japan for all those years.

After lunch, it was off to book all the trips that are coming up: Wakayama (early Japanese migration to Queensland), Taiji (whaling), Akita (university meeting...).
