Little by little, the festivals return...

 ... a food festival on the way home... (140/365, 20 May 2022)

End of a long week, and on the way home...a food festival in the precinct around the university. It's been three years since we've had events held in this area, events that we can participate in that is. There was, of course, the big festival of International Sportz last year, but we could only look in through the cyclone mesh fences...we couldn't participate.

This precinct has, in the past, hosted many a festival--Japanese, multicultural, food, sports, culture--it has been lovely feature of working in this area. Tonight, and for the nest two days, a food festival with all sorts of different dishes to try, a whole precinct of dessert trucks, and lots of stalls from the prefectures showing off the best of local produce, enticing us Tokyoites to the regions (just like last weekend). Interesting to see a few vegan choices too in this growing area of gastronomic choice.

Good timing, I didn't get to have lunch today but also...so much to choose from, I have trouble deciding at times like these. I settled for some taco rice, quite popular food van fare here, and quite nicely done. Across the way, in the flower promenade (you might recall I was there just a couple of weeks ago taking pics of its wide open spaces...) all the desserts were featured...of course, one had to try these too. (Narrator: there may have been more dessert courses than main courses, but I couldn't possibly confirm, or deny)

The crepes were far and away the most popular, with a very long line. And my usual reaction to a very long line is to basically avoid it and seek out the others. Tonight, some Japanese gelato, made with sake lees, and some shaved ice (kakekori) with roasted tea, but a speciality of a local kujira (whale) restaurant...this one was for research purposes of course.

Lots of lovely things to collect from the regions, from honey produced by bees in the local area, to  passionfruit from the islands off Tokuo, and dear reader, if I could share the wonderful fragrance of these passionfruit, I would. Just perfect. I now have to think about how best to have them.

We are still cautious when it comes to Covid but it is nice to have these events slowly returning.

I was going to use the M5, but it was the iPhone 12 mini that did the work this evening.
