Yay for holidays...

 ... ah, the rain... (119/365, 29 Apr 2022)

Day one of a series of seven days, four of which are official public holidays. Today, officially 'Showa Day' is actually the birthday of the Showa Emperor, known in English as Hirohito. Since his reign went on for so long (64 years at the time of his death in January 1989; I happened to be here studying in Japan at the time, but I digress), the government decided to keep it anyway. It has gone through a few name changes but here we are, the 'start' of what we call Golden Week. Yay! one would think; nay, said the rain gods. So here we are.

At a break during the showers* (and one special online class, but enough work talk for today) I made a dash down to the shops to pick up the papers and a few things, including lunch/dinner, and waltzed through the park, umbrella in one hand, camera in the other. Actually, it started raining again while I waltzed.

Back to the desk, back to planning the week, and especially tomorrow (more on tomorrow, tomorrow, stay tuned). But in amongst today's pics of a wet park, I wanted to pay tribute to our local convenience store workers (and convenience store workers everywhere) who keep these amazing little shops open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Our neighbourhood one is undergoing a few changes, reshuffling the shelves... but one of today's pics is something I'll miss at home. This full meal, all the essential elements, ready-to-go, for around five dollars Australian.

Weeds apparently, but not really, surely...

I could not make this for the price

Thanks to all the convenience store workers!

Today's with the convenience of the iPhone 12 mini.
